The challenge of disposable gloves

Disposable gloves are responsible for significant environmental damage worldwide, with 500 billion gloves ending up as waste every year. Thijs Groenen and Matz van Noesel saw this problem and decided to found Gloovy, a company developing fully recyclable gloves to reduce the impact of disposable gloves.

Innovation for a circular economy

Gloovy offers a circular alternative to disposable gloves by using sustainable, fully recyclable materials. "Our gloves reduce carbon emissions by 75% and save 50 litres of water per box of 100 gloves," Thijs says. Their product targets the cleaning, food and medical sectors, where sterile gloves are not needed, and helps these sectors work more sustainably.

Participation in the event the Connection and contact with coaches from Startups for Society partners enabled Gloovy to present their product to a wider audience and attract new customers and partners, including cleaning companies and even parties from the banking sector.

More sustainable glove market

Gloovy wants to contribute to a sustainable future by changing the life cycle of gloves. Matz: "Every year, 500 billion disposable gloves are used worldwide, often only for a few minutes. Research has shown that disposable gloves are one of the most polluting products in the workplacen. Our mission is to bring to market a new kind of glove that is both recyclable and energy efficient in production." Gloovy's ultimate goal is to even set up a return and collection system in the future, so that the gloves are not only produced sustainably, but can also be disposed of responsibly after use.

In the short term, Gloovy wants to grow, but without losing control. "Demand is high, and we want to make sure we can continue to meet our promises. In the long term, we see opportunities to expand our approach across Europe, with a network where gloves are collected and recycled on a large scale," Thijs says proudly. "We believe this change in the working environment can make a big impact over time."

With their innovative and sustainable solution, Gloovy takes a big step towards a more sustainable glove market and proves that even small changes can have a big impact on the environment.
