Mess mapping - Systems mapping

Importance for social entrepreneurship

A system map can provide important insights on stakeholders and their constraints, vested interests and influences. This helps identify possible points of intervention, who should be involved, what problems we can address and what opportunities we can create.

Importance for social entrepreneurship:
As social issues are interconnected, this tool helps entrepreneurs understand the broader system and uncover hidden relationships and new opportunities for action.

How to use mess mapping

1. Write the core problem in the middle: Place the main issue in the centre of a large sheet of paper.

2. Draw ramifications for related issues: Identify factors affecting the problem and link them to the centre.

3. Acknowledge interdependencies: Draw additional connections between different factors to show how they influence each other.

4. Identify key leverage points: look for areas where intervention can break negative cycles or create positive change.
